How to Make a Calm /Mindful Jar

Here is how to make a super simple meditation / mindful jar by Rachel Brydon from Calm in the Chaos.

You will need:

• A jar / bottle that can be fully sealed. You can use glass or plastic. If you have a child that is  likely to drop or throw the jar - go plastic!

• Glycerin

• Hot water

• Glitter

• Washing up liquid

• Anything else you’d like to move about in your jar (lego, sequins, little toys)

• Food colouring (optional)

How much glycerin you want will depend on how slowly you want the glitter to settle and how big  a jar you use. A good ratio is 1/3rd glycerin to 2/3rds water.

Instructions:

• Pour your glycerin into your jar

• Add a couple of drops of washing up liquid into the jar, this helps to stop the glitter clumping • Add in your glitter - 3 tablespoons is plenty for a jam jar

• Give it a little stir

• Pour in the hot water

• Stir it again

• If your glitter is clumping, pop some washing up liquid onto your finger and give it a wiggle  through the clumps

• Add anything else you’d like to add in, colour for the water or extra items to float / sink

• Make sure the jar is tightly screwed on - use strong glue around the thread lines if required

To use

Shake the jar and slowly breathe while the glitter settles to the bottom. Concentrate on what  you’re feeling as you watch the mesmerising glitter sparkle and move. Repeat as often as you  enjoy :-)
