What Do Young People From Single Parent Household Need To Have Mentally Healthy Futures?
This blog is to raise awareness of what children from single parent households need to thrive! Our 2025 Youth Action Academy members (young people from single parent households age 16-24) have shared what they think a child living in a single parent household needs to go on to have a mentally healthy future. These were the 8 core themes running through all of their answers:
Connection with others with shared experience, emotional support, a safe, environment, clear communication, educational support, positive experiences, positive relationships and mental health support.
Youth Action Academy “YAA has helped me build confidence, and courage over the past few months. Everyone has been really kind, empathetic and supportive, and helped become a better version of myself!”
Inform and influence and build leadership skills.

Champions 4 Change “you feel embodied in a community and it boosts your wellbeing”
Champions 4 Change (C4C) is a youth-led volunteering opportunity for young people who want to make a difference in their community while building their own confidence, skills, and friendships.

Thrive Together: A Year of Growth, Connection & Single Parent Volunteering
One year ago, with support from The National Lottery Community Fund and in partnership with the Mental Health Foundation, we launched Thrive—an ambitious, single-parent-led volunteering project designed to support mental health, reduce isolation, and build skills. One year on, it's not just a project—it’s a movement (as pointed out by one of our volunteers).
Stress Awareness Month 2025: #LeadWithLove
April is Stress Awareness Month, and this year’s theme—#LeadWithLove—asks us to show up for ourselves and others with unconditional positive regard: kindness, compassion, and acceptance, no matter what we’re facing.
It’s a simple idea, but a powerful one. Stress touches all of our lives, especially as single parents, and in those hard moments, the most healing thing we can do is to respond with love—especially toward ourselves.
